If you feel fear, should you REALLY do it anyway?

"Feel the fear and do it anyway" is an age old quote that is meant to be inspiring and encouraging. But should we really be teaching our children to do things that their hearts and minds are warning them against?

“Feel the fear and do it anyway” is such a bullshit thing to say to children. I don’t want my kids to feel fear, but go ahead and do what is making them fearful.

If my son is being pressured to take illegal drugs at an underage party, I do not want him to feel the fear and do it anyway.

If my daughter is being pressured into having sex with her partner, I do not want her to feel the fear and do it anyway.

If my son is watching another boy beat the life out of someone because of the colour of their skin, I do not want him to feel the fear and do it anyway.

If my daughter is being told to stand naked in front of a camera, I do not want her to feel the fear and do it anyway.

If my son is being peer pressured into getting into a car with an intoxicated driver, I do not want him to feel the fear and do it anyway.

Feel the fear and do it anyway, is bullshit.

If I told you to put on a blind fold and go and stand in the middle of the busy freeway, would you feel the fear and do it anyway? Fuck no.

If I told you to swim with a tank of sharks with a chicken carcass strapped around your waist, would you feel the fear and do it anyway? Fuck no.

I want my children to feel the fear, look inside themselves to find where that fear lies, then to TRUST THEIR INSTINCTS.

Your instinct in your inner self that sits on your heart and gives it a swift kick whenever it senses you are about to put yourself in danger. Let’s call him Fred.

"I want my children to feel the fear, look inside themselves to find where that fear lies, then to TRUST THEIR INSTINCTS"

When you are in a situation that literally makes your heart hurt, that’s Fred kicking the shit out of you saying “Danger! Danger! Get out of here!”

When you have that pain in your heart when you just feel like something is “off”, that’s Fred saying “This is not right! Listen to me!”

When you are going against your gut feeling, Fred will stomp on your heart and yell and scream and shout and go crazy until you listen “HEY! DUMBASS! STOP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS!!”

I do not want my children to feel the fear and do it anyway. And neither should you . Listen to Fred. Your heart will thank you for it.

Let me know below, do you teach your children to feel the fear and do it anyway? Or do you agree with my thoughts?

Love you all, Dee
